The Breguet reference 4460 in 18k white gold is a particularly refined interpretation of the maison’s early Marine chronograph, produced during the 1990s as Breguet was consolidating its modern identity around classical craftsmanship and technically sophisticated wristwatches. With its compact proportions, automatic chronograph movement and unmistakable Breguet design language, the 4460 combines the functionality of a sporting complication with the elegance traditionally associated with the manufacture. Its fluted caseband, welded lugs and carefully balanced architecture make it a distinctly Breguet approach to the luxury chronograph.

The present example is distinguished by its unusual mother-of-pearl dial, whose naturally iridescent surface gives this watch an individual visual character. Contrasted against the cool tone of the white-gold case, the dial introduces a decorative richness rarely encountered within the predominantly restrained 4460 family. The chronograph counters, date display at six o’clock, Roman numerals and traditional Breguet hands remain clearly structured despite the complexity of the indications, creating an elegant balance between functionality and ornamental refinement. Rather than overwhelming the original design, the mother-of-pearl execution reveals a more precious and unconventional side of Breguet’s early Marine collection.

Mechanically, the reference 4460 is powered by Breguet’s automatic calibre 576, a 37-jewel chronograph movement adjusted to five positions. The movement drives the central chronograph seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour counters, subsidiary running seconds and date indication, offering a complete and highly practical chronograph configuration within a remarkably compact case. This combination of mechanical substance, traditional detailing and restrained dimensions reflects an era in which Breguet approached the sports watch not through aggressive styling, but through refinement, proportion and classical horological execution.

From a collector’s standpoint, the reference 4460 represents an interesting and comparatively overlooked chapter in Breguet’s modern history. Produced before the larger and more overtly contemporary generations of the Marine collection, it preserves the delicacy and craftsmanship associated with the maison’s traditional dress watches while introducing a more versatile chronograph architecture. White-gold examples with mother-of-pearl dials are encountered far less frequently than the familiar yellow-gold and silvered-dial configurations, giving the present watch a particularly distinctive character within the reference.

Our example is especially appealing, preserved in perfect overall condition and fitted with its original Breguet 18k white-gold folding clasp. The beautifully preserved mother-of-pearl dial, crisp white-gold case and matching precious-metal clasp form an exceptionally coherent and elegant configuration. Combining the technical interest of an automatic chronograph with an uncommon decorative dial and the discreet sophistication of white gold, this reference 4460 represents one of the most distinctive and refined executions of Breguet’s first-generation Marine chronograph.
